How it feels

This is a short stop-motion animation film made from modeling clay. It was created over three years by a sculptor and his family, using pioneering color animation techniques. It adapts the classic fairy tale about a wealthy man with a blue beard who tests his new wife's obedience.

What happens

Barbe Bleue est un court métrage d'animation en volume, animation de pâte à modeler. Produit par Jean Painlevé , sorti en 1936, et réalisé par le sculpteur René Bertrand ainsi que par sa famille (femme et enfants). Le tournage dura trois ans et permit de perfectionner les techniques d'animation. C'est le premier film d'animation en pâte à modeler (plastiline) et en couleur (procédé Gasparcolor, mis au point par un chimiste hongrois). Jean Painlevé "s'amuse" avec sa bande de copains, musicien et sculpteur, pendant des mois de tournage et trois ans de recherche sur les nouvelles techniques d'animation. (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
