De film vertelt de (grotendeels Europese) geschiedenis van Zuid-Afrika van de ontdekking door Bartolomeu Dias tot aan de Tweede Boerenoorlog. De film werd gemaakt ter gelegenheid van de 100ste verjaardag van de Grote Trek.
