The Strange Love of Martha Ivers is a 1946 American noir tragedy film starring Barbara Stanwyck, Van Heflin, and Lizabeth Scott, with Kirk Douglas appearing in his film debut. It was directed by Lewis Milestone based on a screenplay by Robert Rossen, adapted from the short story "Love Lies Bleeding" by playwright John Patrick. The film premiered in London in June 1946, before opening in New York City on July 25, 1946. It received largely favorable reviews from critics, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing, Original Motion Picture Story.
