Kanavan laidalla on Ilmari Unhon ohjaama suomalainen elokuva vuodelta 1949. Se perustuu naisten pilkkalauluun ”Palpan Killi”. Romanttinen tarina kertoo kanavanlaidan tumman kaunottaren ja tukkihinaajalle töihin tulleen ylioppilaan rakkaudesta. Monien aikakauden elokuvien tapaan aiheena on yksittäinen laulu. ”Palpan Killin” rivot sanat julkaistiin aikanaan kokonaan vasta vuonna 1970 Isojen poikien laulukirjassa. Elokuvan käsikirjoitus oli laulun sanoituksista poiketen kultivoitu ja romanttinen. Tarinaa pehmennettiin elokuvan käsikirjoituksessa siten, että tytöllä on myös hyvätapainen ihailija.
