Elokuva pohjautuu Ylioppilaskunnan laulajien speksiin Rengasmatka 3 eli Peräkylän pikajuna, joka oli tehty kuoron amerikankiertueen rahoittamiseksi ja jota oli esitetty kolmisenkymmentä kertaa eri paikoissa Helsingissä.
