Il film prende spunto dal grande successo della trasmissione televisiva Il Musichiere, alla fine degli anni cinquanta: la sigla finale, cantata dal presentatore del programma, Mario Riva, era Domenica, è sempre domenica di Garinei e Giovannini e Gorni Kramer.
