Die Handlung beruht auf Wolfgang Hildesheimers Hörspiel Begegnung im Balkanexpreß von 1953. Die ORF-Produktion wurde am 18. März 1960 zuerst gesendet. Die Erstsendung in Deutschland folgte am 30.
