В фильме использованы фрагменты кинокартин, музыку к которым написал Исаак Дунаевский, а также материалы Госфильмофонда. О композиторе рассказывают: режиссёры Григорий Александров и Иван Пырьев, поэты-песенники Михаил Матусовский и Василий Лебедев-Кумач. Об опереттах Дунаевского рассказывает Григорий Ярон.
