Binansagan siyang "Ama ng Katipunan". Siya ang nagtatag at lumaon naging Supremo ng kilusang Katipunan na naglayong makamtan ang kasarinlan ng Pilipinas mula sa Espanya at nagpasimula ng Himagsikang Pilipino.
