Film jest swobodną adaptacją opowiadania grozy autorstwa Henryka Rzewuskiego pod tym samym tytułem, jednak w przeciwieństwie do literackiego pierwowzoru jest raczej parodią popularnych motywów występujących w literaturze i filmach grozy.
