A Doll's House is a 1973 period drama film directed and produced by Joseph Losey, adapted by David Mercer from the 1879 play by Henrik Ibsen. It stars Jane Fonda in the role of Nora Helmer and David Warner as her domineering husband, Torvald. The cast also features Trevor Howard, Delphine Seyrig, and Edward Fox. A co-production between the United Kingdom and France, the film was shot on-location in Røros, Norway. Losey's version of the play was extensively adapted for film. From Ibsen's expository dialogue, entire new scenes were developed by British dramatist Mercer and integrated through a number of invented sets. The film premiered on May 17, 1973, and received mixed reviews. It was one of two English-language versions of Ibsen's play released in 1973, a phenomenon known as twin films.
