הבננה השחורה הוא סרט קולנוע ישראלי משנת 1976 בכתיבה, הפקה ובימוי של בנימין חיים, עם אריק מנקין ודני כנרות בתפקידים הראשיים. בנימין חיים (1933–2004) נולד בהודו, עבר לארצות הברית, למד שם קולנוע ובגיל 37 עלה לישראל כדי ללמד בחוג לקולנוע באוניברסיטת תל אביב. המועצה לביקורת סרטים ומחזות פסלה את הסרט אלא אם יוצאו ממנו קטעים החושפים איברים אינטימיים וקטעים הפוגעים בדת. הוא ניהל מאבק שהגיע עד לבית המשפט העליון אך נאלץ לקצר את הסרט. המאבק הזה פרסם את הסרט. הוא קבל מענק מהמועצה לעידוד הסרט הישראלי וכדי להשלים את התקציב הוא מכר מניות בסך 200 ל"י כל אחת להפקת הסרט (מימון המונים). המאפיין של הסרט הוא הסגנון הקולנועי ולא תוכן העלילה. סגנונו הוא קומדיה שחורה שזורה במרדפי סלפסטיק, לעג על האמונה הדתית היהודית ועל רעיון גאולת העולם בנוסח ההיפי. חלק מהמבקרים מעריכים את הסרט כקומדיה אוונגרדית שהקדימה את זמנה ולאחת היצירות המיוחדות ביותר של הקולנוע הישראלי. הבמאי מריץ את הסרט קדימה ואחורה, מחליף מהירויות הסרטה, מבצע חיתוכים נועזים, מסחרר מצלמה ומשחזר סצנות קולנועיות ברוח קומדיה אילמת.
