Rolurile principale au fost interpretate de Florin Zamfirescu, Octavian Cotescu, Vasile Nițulescu, Mihai Pălădescu și Ion Caramitru. Subiectul filmului îl reprezintă reîntoarcerea unui tânăr absolvent de facultate ca profesor de matematică în satul natal, după ce a refuzat anumite compromisuri ce i-ar fi facilitat o viitoare carieră universitară.
