Marshall, Geraldine Page, Maureen Stapleton, and Sam Waterston. The film was released in the United States on August 2, 1978, by United Artists. Allen's first full-fledged film in the drama genre, it was met with acclaim from critics. It received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay (both for Allen), Best Actress (Page), and Best Supporting Actress (Stapleton).
