I Nepal på grænsen til Tibet bor Sherpa-folket, på bjergsider nær Mount Everest i det barskeste klima. Den barske natur fjernt fra frodige dale, har ikke virket indbydende på Nepals herremænd, så befolkningen har undgået slaveri og livegenskab.
