O filme é inspirado no musical Pobre Menina Rica, de Carlos Lyra e Vinícius de Moraes, e tem como protagonistas o cantor Djavan e a atriz Patrícia Pillar, em uma história ambientada em uma comunidade de pessoas em situação de rua, onde um deles (Djavan) apaixona-se por uma menina rica (Patrícia Pillar).
