Filmen er den tredje av en trilogi som har fått fellesbenevnelsen Sangen om den knuste drømmen som filmskaperne har beskrevet som «et oppgjør med den selvhøytidelige 1968-arven». De to andre er Åpen framtid og Drømmeslottet. Den er utgitt året før Drømmeslottet, men ligger innholdsmessig sist i trilogien. Adjø solidaritet regnes som filmduoens hovedverk.
