Matjaž Klopčič je film posnel po dvajset let starem scenariju, ki ga je Andrej Hieng napisal za TV Beograd, ki svoje zamisli nikoli ni uresničila. Leta 1989 se je za scenarij ogrela TV Ljubljana.
