Filmu powstał w oparciu o nowelę Józefa Łozińskiego (autor był współscenarzystą produkcji), nagrodzoną w konkursie Naczelnego Zarządu Kinematografii, Związku Młodzieży Wiejskiej i redakcji "Zarzewia" w 1970 roku oraz w konkursie "Młodzież polskiej wsi" w 1971 roku.
