How it feels
In the spring of 1997, men in an Afghan village recount their experiences under the Soviet occupation, struggles with poverty, the importance of water, and their hopes for the future. The film shows a Sufi religious chant and includes a stark scene of a calf being halal slaughtered. It also explains the Participatory Rural Appraisal method for gathering information in development work.

What happens
Mændene i Deh Hamza er en film instrueret af Kristian Dall. Filmen er optaget i en afghansk landsby i foråret 1997. Mænd fra landsbyen fortæller om deres oplevelser med kommunisterne under den sovjetiske besættelse, om fattigdom, det uundværlige vand og om deres forhåbninger til fremtiden. Mod afslutningen af filmen ser vi et par sekvenser med religiøs lovsang, der er en sufistisk indgangsvinkel til religionen. Filmen rummer ret barske optagelser af en kalv, der halalslagtes.
