Der Film entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Bundesministerium für Unterricht und kulturelle Angelegenheiten und dem ORF für die Naturdokumentations-Reihe ORF-Universum. Anlässlich des 850. Geburtstags des Wiener Stephansdoms porträtiert die Dokumentation das berühmte Kirchengebäude nicht primär als Architekturjuwel, sondern als überraschend reichhaltiges Biotop für Tiere und Pflanzen.
