Filmen handler om et ungt par som opplever en tragedie dagen før de skal gifte seg. Mannen blir hardt skadet i en ulykke og blir ute av stand til å kommunisere, sannsynligvis for resten av livet. Hans elskede sverger å forbli ved hans side, men etter mange år blir hun fristet til å forlate ham på grunn av en gryende romanse med en av hans beste venner.
