The 3D catalogue: film cases on wooden shelves, with the cat sitting at the counter next to its greeting.

The catalogue in 3D

The film shelves have a room of their own that you can walk around in. The cat behind the counter is the AI Catbot, and they pick real films from the same catalogue when you tell them what you feel like watching. Nothing is for sale, here or in there. Go in from here and this film is already out on the counter, with more like it waiting on the shelf next to it.

What happens

Maa on vuonna 2001 ensi-iltansa saanut Veikko Aaltosen ohjaama suomalainen dokumenttielokuva. Siinä seurataan maatilojen ja niiden viljelijöiden elämää Elimäellä, Kauhavalla ja Kerimäellä vuodesta 1996 vuoteen 2000. Maa kuvaa maaseudun muutosta juuri Euroopan unioniin liittyneessä 1990-luvun lopun Suomessa. Ohjaajan omin sanoin Maa ”yrittää kertoa ihmisistä, jotka ikiaikaisen elämäntavan muuttuessa ja hävitessä jaksavat yrittää pitää kiinni omasta historiastaan. He yrittävät löytää perustan elämänuskolleen työstä, luonnosta, maasta ja Jumalasta”. Kerimäellä Auvo ja Riitta Pekkinen pitävät maitotilaa ja harjoittavat kalastusta, Heikki Makkonen metsittää peltonsa ja keskittyy metsänhoitoon ja kalastukseen. Heli ja Osmo Karvinen joutuvat ratkaisemaan tilansa tulevaisuuden. Kauhavalla Jukka ja Kaija Aro uskovat lujasti tilansa kehittämiseen. Susanna Haapoja ja Risto Ranne edustavat nuoria viljelijöitä. Elimäkeläinen Seppo Kujala on syvästi uskonnollinen siemenviljayrittäjä, ja Heini Mäkelä pitää yksin sikatilaa. (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
