Distribuído pela Star Film, o filme é registrado com o número 10 em seu catálogo. É o primeiro de três actuality films que Méliès dedicou à Place de l'Opéra ao longo de 1896, locação de significado especial em sua trajetória: foi durante as filmagens naquela praça que a câmera emperrou acidentalmente, levando à descoberta do stop trick — a técnica de substituição que transformaria Méliès no pioneiro dos efeitos especiais cinematográficos.
