How it feels

A man who always wanted to be a teacher finally gets a job at a rural school in Yamaguchi. He meets a withdrawn girl with a difficult home life, and the class starts raising fireflies together. The project helps her open up, but construction threatens the river where they plan to release the insects.

What happens

『ほたるの星』（ほたるのほし）は、宗田理原作の日本映画である。本項では、映画版について記述する。 小学校時代の恩師に憧れて教員を志した三輪元は、何度も教員採用試験を受けては不合格が続き、ようやく念願だった教員に採用される。 赴任先は山口県の小学校。そこで複雑な家庭環境で心を閉ざした少女・星比加里と出会う。ふとしたことからクラスでホタルを飼育することになり、比加里も心を開いていく。だが、ホタルを放流する川では護岸工事が行われることが決まり、放流が危うくなる…。 1997年当時、防府市立華浦小学校の教諭だった瀧口稔がクラスの児童たちと一緒にホタルを蘇らせた実話を元にしている。 (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
