Narra los hechos de la Guerra de la Triple Alianza retratados mediante los cuadros de pinturas realizados por el artista plástico argentino Cándido López, quién se alistó en el conflicto militar. La película fue estrenada mundialmente el 16 de abril de 2005 durante el Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente, mientras que su estreno comercial en las salas de cines de Argentina fue el 2 de marzo de 2006.
