Dokumentaren omhandler bandet Mayhem som ledet an black metal bevegelsen i Norge, og som var en viktig del av den andre bølgen innen black metal internasjonalt. Mayhem er også en viktig del av True Norwegian Black Metal. Dokumentaren tar for seg starten av bandet, miljøet innad, kirkebrannene, selvmordet til Per Yngve Ohlin og drapet på Øystein Aarseth.
