9 is a 2009 adult animated post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film directed by Shane Acker and written by Pamela Pettler. It is based on Acker's 2005 short film 9. Set in an alternate version of the 1940s, the film stars Elijah Wood as "9", a rag doll who awakens shortly after the end of humanity following the uprising of machines. John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, and Fred Tatasciore voice supporting roles. 9 was released by Focus Features on September 9, 2009. The film received generally mixed reviews from critics and grossed $49 million on a $30 million budget.
