During World War II, a young boy named Batyr takes care of his mother and newborn sister after his father dies at the front. He decides to learn to play the dutar, a difficult traditional instrument. Despite the hardships of wartime, he perseveres and becomes a skilled musician.

На плечі юного Батира лягають турботи про матір та новонароджену сестричку. Батько хлопчика, відомий у селі майстер гри на дутарі, загинув на фронті. Батир вирішує опанувати складне мистецтво дутариста. Але йде війна і в тилу не до музичних шкіл.
