Das Drehbuch schrieb Regisseur Mike Marzuk gemeinsam mit Gesa Scheibner, basierend auf dem Musical Kleiner Häuptling Winnetou (Text: Karl-Heinz March). Der Kinostart in Deutschland und Österreich war am 11. August 2022. In der Schweiz hätte der Film am 20. Oktober 2022 anlaufen sollen, wurde aber vom Verleih zurückgezogen.
