Il s'agit du premier long métrage en solo du réalisateur, adapté du spectacle solo éponyme de Marie-Odile Weiss. John Wax avait déjà coréalisé Tout simplement noir avec Jean-Pascal Zadi, qui fait ici une apparition en dentiste.
