What happens

Read or Die is an OVA based on the characters of the novels and manga of the same name by Hideyuki Kurata. It was released by Studio Deen from 2001 to 2002 and distributed outside Japan by Manga Entertainment in 2003. The series, directed by Koji Masunari, features the main characters of the original manga such as Yomiko Readman and Joker. Despite this, it is not a continuation of either the light novels or the manga storyline. The OVA was aired on Adult Swim in October 2004, unedited save for the fact that the three episodes were re-cut into a single film, and later premiered on the SyFy channel Ani-Monday block in 2007. The three segments received a Blu-ray upgrade, along with the 26-episode TV series, R.O.D the TV by Aniplex of America in 2010. (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
