Сериал является вольным продолжением телесериалов «Мосгаз» 2012 года, «Палач» 2014 года, и третьим по счёту о следователе Черкасове. Вплоть до премьеры картина анонсировалась под рабочим названием «Гознак». Следующий фильм серии — «Шакал».
