How it feels

This is a Japanese historical drama set in the late 19th century. It follows two men, a low-ranking samurai from Aizu and a rural samurai from Satsuma, who take different sides during the Meiji Restoration. The story shows how each man holds to his own way of living through the upheaval from the end of the shogunate into the modern era.

『獅子の時代』（ししのじだい）は、1980年（昭和55年）1月6日から12月21日まで放送されたNHK大河ドラマ第18作。主演は菅原文太、加藤剛。 会津藩の下級武士である平沼銑次と薩摩藩郷士の苅谷嘉顕を主人公とし、明治維新の勝者側となる嘉顕と敗者側の銑次がそれぞれの生き方を貫いて幕末から明治を生き抜く様を描いた。平沼銑次役には菅原文太、苅谷嘉顕役には加藤剛が起用された。脚本は大河ドラマ初（結果的に唯一）となる山田太一が担当した。 (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
