What happens
The Scapegoat è un cortometraggio muto del 1915. Il nome del regista non viene riportato nei credit del film. Virginia Dalmar è segretamente sposata con Victor Thompson, un banchiere, nonostante l'opposizione di Ezra, fratello e socio in affari di Victor. Il fratello di Virginia, Dick, in una rissa spara a un uomo e, credendo di averlo ucciso, chiede aiuto alla sorella; lei lo incontra in un locale pubblico dove Ezra arriva mentre lei lo bacia per salutarlo. Ezra costringe Virginia ad accompagnarlo a casa dove però Dick arriva mentre Ezra sta cercando di baciarla e, in una rissa, Ezra rimane ucciso. Dick fugge e Virginia viene arrestata per omicidio. Più tardi Dick torna per confessare il crimine ma incontra l'uomo che aveva ferito e che lui credeva morto e rimane ferito mortalmente in una rissa; viene portato in tribunale dove confessa in punto di morte scagionando la sorella.
