How it feels
A Belgian silent film from 1919. A miner loses his job in an explosion and emigrates to Canada with his family. During a ship fire, his wife and baby daughter fall overboard. Years later he learns his daughter survived and was adopted. He decides not to reveal himself to her so he won't disturb her happy life.

What happens
Suprême Sacrifice est un long métrage belge réalisé par Alfred Machin et Armand Du Plessy, sorti en 1919. Privé de son travail par une explosion, le mineur Jacques Hébert décide d'émigrer au Canada avec sa famille. Mais le sort s'acharne lorsque sa femme et sa fille Ginette — encore bébé — tombent à l'eau lors d'un incendie sur le bateau. Des années plus tard Jacques découvre par hasard qu'en réalité la petite fille a survécu et qu'elle a été adoptée.
