The catalogue in 3D

The film shelves have a room of their own that you can walk around in. The cat behind the counter is the AI Catbot, and they pick real films from the same catalogue when you tell them what you feel like watching. Nothing is for sale, here or in there. Go in from here and this film is already out on the counter, with more like it waiting on the shelf next to it.

How it feels

This documentary shows alcohol-dependent men and women in 1970s Finland. The people describe how war, poverty, and tough living conditions pushed them to the margins and to drinking. They know their situation but lack the will to change.

What happens

Rantojen miehet on vuonna 1971 valmistunut Hannu Peltomaan ohjaama puolen tunnin dokumenttielokuva, joka voitti Tampereen kansainvälisten lyhytelokuvajuhlien pääpalkinnon vuonna 1971. Rantojen miehet kuvaa avoimesti ja rehellisesti alkoholisoituneiden miesten ja naisten elämää 1970-luvun suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa. Henkilöiden omat kertomukset valottavat, kuinka sota, köyhyys ja vaikeat elinolosuhteet ajoivat monet syrjään ja alkoholin pariin. Vaikka he ovat tietoisia tilanteestaan, tahdonvoima muutokseen puuttuu. Elokuva toimii inhimillisenä avunhuutona ja tarkkana ajankuvana, joka dokumentoi marginaaliin joutuneiden ihmisten asemaa suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa. (from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA)
