La Reine Margot is a 1994 historical romantic drama film directed by Patrice Chéreau, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Danièle Thompson, based on the 1845 historical novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas. The film stars Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Vincent Perez, and Virna Lisi. An abridged version of the film was released as Queen Margot in North America, and in the United Kingdom under its original French title. La Reine Margot premiered at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award for Lisi. It received twelve nominations at the 20th César Awards, including Best Film, and won five, with Adjani, Anglade, and Lisi winning for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. The film was also nominated for Best Costume Design at the 67th Academy Awards. A restored version was shown as part of the Cannes Classics section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
