Elokuva on yhteiskunnallinen henkilödokumentti joka käsittelee Neuvostoliiton aikaisia vankileirejä. Elokuvassa kuvausryhmä matkustaa pitkin Siperian rataa Pietarista Vladivostokiin ja lukee samalla kahden vankileireillä olleen vangin, kirjailija Andrei Sinjavskin sekä opettaja Amalia Suden leireiltä tekemiä muistiinpanoja.
