The 3D catalogue: film cases on wooden shelves, with the cat sitting at the counter next to its greeting.

The catalogue in 3D

The film shelves have a room of their own that you can walk around in. The cat behind the counter is the AI Catbot, and they pick real films from the same catalogue when you tell them what you feel like watching. Nothing is for sale, here or in there. Go in from here and this series is already out on the counter, with more like it waiting on the shelf next to it.

How it feels

Two pairs of contestants travel across Europe each week. They perform tasks assigned to them and the audience votes on which pair stays. The show ran three seasons in Finland and was one of the earliest Finnish TV formats sold abroad.

What happens

Far Out on vuosina 2001–2002 MTV3-kanavalla esitetty matkailuaiheinen kilpailuohjelma. Ohjelmassa seurattiin viikoittain kahden kilpailijaparin seikkailuja eri puolilla Eurooppaa. Heille annettiin tehtäviä suoritettavaksi, ja yleisö päätti viikoittain äänestämällä kumman kahdesta parista halusi tippuvan suoritusten perusteella. Far Outia tehtiin kolme tuotantokautta. Ensimmäinen kausi esitettiin lauantai-iltaisin 31.3.–19.5.2001. Suuren suosion saavuttamana toinen kausi esitettiin jo saman vuoden syksyllä perjantai-iltaisin 21.9.–23.11.2001. Kolmas kausi esitettiin 22.3.–17.5.2002. Ohjelmaa juonsivat Jaana Pelkonen, Wallu Valpio, Tuomas Enbuske (kausi 1) ja Tatu Ferchen (kaudet 2-3). Far Out oli kevään 2001 suosituimpia ohjelmia. Ohjelma voitti vuoden viihteen Venlan ja Formaatti-Finlandia-palkinnon. Se oli ensimmäisiä suomalaisia tv-formaatteja mitä myytiin ulkomaille; Norjassa Far Outia tehtiin yksi kausi syksyllä 2001. Syyskuun 11. päivän terrori-iskut kuitenkin romahduttivat paikasta toiseen lentämiseen perustuvan ohjelman markkinat. Far Outin ensimmäisen tuotantokauden voittaneet Tatu Ferchen ja Eeka Mäkynen nousivat yleisön suosioon ja ponnahtivat kuuluisuuteen sarjan myötä. Heitä pidetään Suomen ensimmäisinä tosi-tv-tähtinä.
