How it feels
The film is made up of three parts: about a farmer and a kibbutz, about children who survived the Holocaust being absorbed into a kibbutz, and about the Jordan river and settlements along it. These stories are told by soldiers from the Jewish Brigade who meet a despairing Holocaust survivor and give him hope for a new life in the Land of Israel.

דמעת הנחמה הגדולה (באנגלית: The Great Promise) הוא סרט קולנוע ישראלי דובר אנגלית משנת 1947, בבימויו של יוסף לייטס. הסרט מורכב משלושה חלקים: סיפורו של חקלאי - על הקמת קיבוץ והחיים בו. סיפורם של הילדים - על קליטת ילדים ניצולי שואה בקיבוץ. צולם במוסד שומריה במשמר העמק, לפי תסריט של שולמית בת-דורי סיפורו של ירדן - על נהר הירדן והיישובים לאורכו. את הסיפורים האלה מספרים חיילים מהבריגדה היהודית הנפגשים עם ניצול שואה מיואש ומפיחים בו תקווה לחיים חדשים בארץ ישראל. הפקת הסרט החלה כבר בשנת 1945 כשהחלו להתברר ממדי השואה והוא הראשון שהראה את השפעתה על הילדים הניצולים.
